SANANIM

Our Mission Statement

"We do not wish to walk indifferently away from those who have lost faith in themselves, in their fellows, in their very human existence. Those who on their path through life have sought refuge in a drug and have thereby come to know its hidden face, a face which reveals itself with a ruthless logic - the face of suffering, pain, loneliness, oppression, and death. We wish to offer a helping hand to all who yearn for it, to all who have sounded an SOS. And we wish to warn those who see in drugs the symbol of a magical, mysterious, or romantic revolution, or the escape from an otherwise hostile reality."

About us

Founded in 1990, SANANIM is now one of the largest non-governmental organizations in the Czech Republic that provides complex services in the area of prevention, treatment and re-socialization of non-alcoholic drug addictions.

Our 16 facilities/treatment programs provide highly structured substance abuse treatment and treatment-related programs to more than 13 000 clients each year  – to drug users, pathological gamblers, people with other types of substance abuse problems and also to relatives and families whose life is often severely affected by living with an addict. Besides direct services for clients, we offer professional consultations and internships for experts and students in all our programs.

In addition to the high success rate of all its services SANANIM also works hard on removing stigma associated with problems of substance addiction.

Seven Flames of SANANIM

plamenFlame of Abstinence – let’s abstain from everything that harms us, from laziness, from inability to cooperate – let‘s each of us define what harms us and let’s try to get rid of it.

plamenFlame of Humbleness – let’s look for humbleness inside ourselves, as it is our greatest ally in our fight with pride, let’s be humble about what elevates us, let’s fight what humiliates us.

plamenFlame of Wisdom – let’s learn, let’s educate ourselves, let’s search for wisdom, not only for cleverness. Let’s wish for ourselves the wisdom of the powerful, let’s be aware of our power and let’s use it wisely.

plamenFlame of Responsibility – responsibility is one of the closest ties with our clients. We all want to be free, let’s deal with our responsibility as the reverse side of freedom.

plamenFlame of Life Energy – it is the duty of each of us to look for and maintain the sources of our energy. Keep an eye on the sources of your energy, protect them and do not let them run dry.

plamenFlame of Confidence and Self-Confidence – it is only through our trust in ourselves that we can help another person. I hope that our future cooperation will be grounded as it is now in trust in one another, and based on that, we will be able to create safe and sensible partnerships.

plamenFlame of Happiness and Love – it is the highest value that all of us pursue and all our struggling goes this way.

Our programs

Outreach Programs

Outreach Programs

Is a program which focuses on active search of drug users directly in the streets – primarily problem users and those injecting drugs intravenously. Its objective is to protect the community by mitigating health and social risks associated with substance abuse and – at the same time -  motivate the substance users to change their lifestyle.

Clients are provided with basic medical care including first aid, social and crisis counseling, and are referred to special facilities and care.

Contact Centre

Contact Centre

"Káčko" provides low threshold services to users of illegal addictive substances. Assistance to these people is provided with a pragmatic and humanistic approach to the risks arising from their addiction - regardless of their current motivation for abstinence. In addition to needle exchange and testing for infectious diseases in order to prevent their spreading throughout society, Contact Centre also educates, provides counseling, medical treatment and hygienic services and motivates its clients to change their lifestyle.

Specialized Outpatient Services CADAS

Specialized Outpatient Services CADAS

The substitution outpatient clinic offers comprehensive and specialized outpatient services for opioid users. They are aimed at stabilization, recovery and improvement of quality of life of clients through psychiatric care, substitution program, psychotherapy, social counseling and case management. The psychiatric care programme also provides therapies for mental illnesses accompanying substance abuse.

Day Care Centre

Day Care Centre

The outpatient psychotherapeutic center provides counseling, treatment and an intensive daycare program for people endangered by consequences of substance abuse (mainly non-alcoholic) and for their families. Its intensive medium-term treatment offers a structured program – primarily a group therapy with daily attendance – which focuses on stabilization and higher quality of life of clients with an emphasis on abstinence. The Centre also offers a specific treatment program for pregnant women and mothers with substance abuse disorders.

Therapeutic Community Němčice

Therapeutic Community Němčice

The Němčice Therapeutic Community provides long-term residential treatment and social rehabilitation to people with a long substance abuse career and extensive psychosocial damage who want to find hope, who desire to change their lives for the better, and who want to gain new skills and healthy self-confidence. It was established in 1991 as the first TC for drug addicts in the Czech Republic. Around 40 clients undergo treatment here every year. About half of them complete their treatment successfully and are able to radically change their lives and continue to abstain, work and lead a satisfactory life.

Therapeutic Community Karlov

Therapeutic Community Karlov

Karlov Therapeutic Community provides a safe place where young people and addict mothers can break free from their past toxic environment and start to live differently, without drugs. Mothers can undergo their treatment without being stripped from their children during the whole process of recovery. Karlov lives together as one big family, where clients jointly take care of the Community buildings, gardens, and the farm. The substance abuse treatment and recovery is based on supportive therapy, a collaborative therapeutic alliance, and onsite child care and support – all of them helping clients in rebuilding family relationships, determining core values and finding balance in life. The success rate of client reintegration and abstinence is about 65 %.

Aftercare Centre

Aftercare Centre

A non-state medical facility providing follow-up care to clients after substance abuse treatment in the form of outpatient after-care or residential sheltered housing services. The key objective of the after-treatment programs is to reduce the risks of relapse of clients to addictive behaviours through supportive, counseling, therapeutic and self-care activities, as well as through strengthening their motivation for further positive changes in their lives and their social stabilization.

Employment Agency

Employment Agency

It offers advice and guidance in challenging social situations: career guidance to clients who need to change jobs or look for a new job, assistance when they change housing or look for a new one, when applying for social support benefits, and assistance with debt issues. The Agency also provides a work rehabilitation program to gain and strengthen work conditions and skills before entering new employment or job training. It also acts as a mediator for clients entering a job training or a sheltered job. The Agency thus provides the link between the treatment and successful social integration.

The Centre for Persons in Conflict with the Law

The Centre for Persons in Conflict with the Law

The Centre´s primary target group are people with substance use disorders at all stages of criminal proceedings. Treatment at the Center for Persons in Conflict with the Law may precede or supplement treatment in another facility.

Counseling for Parents

It helps families and relatives of people with diverse addiction disorders to cope with their challenging situation. It offers a wide range of outpatient services from one-time counseling, through individual, couple and family therapy, to regular parent and partner groups.
